Social fuel?

Yes, it's true and it does exist.....a social media powered car!

The social media-powered car is the amazing creation of Minddrive, a nonprofit that works with at-risk youth to "learn, expand their vision of the future and have a positive influence on urban workforce development." The group routinely has students convert gas-powered cars to electric ones; however, the social media twist makes it a little more exciting, yet challenging.

The Kansas City teens installed a small tablet into the circuitry of a 1967 Karmann Ghia. This tablet monitors the "social watts" derived from Minddrive's YouTubeFacebookTwitter and Instagram accounts and filters the power flow accordingly.

Examples would include:
A "like" on Instagram equals one social watt and/or a new Twitter follower equals 5 watts

As part of this "test," the group will be driving the car from Kansas City to Washington DC....therefore, users are encouraged to interact with Minddrive's social media accounts to fuel the car so they can make their journey!

Life after graduation

We are official MBA graduates.....well not really....but soon enough :)

Many of my classmates already, including myself, have began establishing our career paths. However, after completing this program and for many who are just completing undergrad, job searching may be a critically component of their daily lives. After searching and applying for a countless number of jobs, you finally begin the interview process. How do you go about preparing for an interview? I know for myself, I have not interviewed for a job in quite sometime, but I conduct interviews and participate in hiring in my current role.

I found an article on Linkedin that I believe is a great tool for individuals looking to prepare for an interview. As a hiring manager, I do believe your interviewers know if they want to potentially hire you within the first 90 seconds. Similar to what was mentioned in the article, first impressions are everything to me. How a person represents themselves within the first minute of meeting me typically gives me all the information I need to know. I wanted to share this article because as the economy turns around, the competition for good jobs is increasing.....and I believe it is always important to be prepared for anything. This is a great example of how marketing useful information on social media can help individuals succeed.

Miracles really do happen...

What an amazing story that comes out of Cleveland, Ohio! I actually grew up in Cleveland and distinctly remember when these girls went missing.....it was such a sad story. I could not even imagine the true strength of these women and the pain and suffering they had to undergo. As the story was unveiled last week, all eyes have been on these three women and the miracle of their escape  and the help of a bystander.

Within the week, the story has made almost all social media sites, including Facebook.

As the women begin to adjust to real life, they are pleading for their privacy, which hopefully will be respected. However, all social media outlets will play a major role in society finding out what really happened. As I am sure everyone is, I wish these women a speedy recovery.

Looking to give back to your Community?

Do you anyone who has suffered from cancer? Do you know any children who have suffered from cancer? Have you had the opportunity to help them through their tough time, whether it be emotionally, socially or financially? Are you aware of any charities in your community thats mission is solely dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer in our lifetime? These are just a few questions to ask yourself when thinking about participating in extracurricular activities within your community.

If you live in the Atlanta area and are interested in donating your time and/or providing a charitable contribution to a non-profit organization, CURE for childhood cancer would be my recommendation.

I started volunteering with CURE the first year I moved to Atlanta and have found it to be a very rewarding experience. Through the organization and the different events I've volunteered at, I have been exposed to so many wonderful individuals and families who have suffered hardships due to cancer. In addition, I have had to opportunity to meet so many wonderful children who are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Their positivity and smiles make it all worth it!

One of my favorite events to take part in, which unfortunately I was unable to partake in this year due to work travel, is Lauren's Run and the annual CURE picnic. It is an event that takes place the first weekend in may every year and brings families from all over Georgia together to run a 5K for a great cause. After the race is a picnic where families and children are able to participate in games, cake walks and socializing. The event is titled "Lauren's Run" to be in memory of two beautiful and strong little girls named Lauren who were unable to continue their fight against cancer.

If you are interested in learning more about this wonderful organization and taking part in some of the great events they have to offer, I encourage you to please visit their website: http://www.curechildhoodcancer.org/

I can only hope that you will find it as rewarding as I have found it to be.
